Oasis 2006

Last week, I went the “Window Dance” on 42nd st. at Chashama.
It was amazing for me to see this performance becuase
it’s informal dance style. I thought it was because of NYCity it could be performed.
The theatre was not “theatre” but “gallery”. There was several
art works on the wall and people could see the paintings and dance performing. Um.. Isn’t it multi-arts form???
I really enjoyed it though dancers were not professional dancers.

After searching about Korean Dance, I found that political issues are influenced on Korean Dance. Korea was divided along political lines North and South Korea in 1945. After those days, even Korea is one, I can see the dance style is compeletly different. For South Korea, liberation was uprising but could not dance freely becuase of political issues. The goverment suppressed artists who works about politic issues. After 1980′s, many artists and communities were started moving out their own voice.
Now, dance can comment on political or social issues or influences world events. Not every but many dancers are reflect political issues on their movements. But, it is important that dancer should be know their history correctly and dance their own voice. That’s why art is important for ourselves and our children.
